Abstract

Most of professionals consider that figurative language is exclusive of artistic literature and, consequently, they think it is totally opposed to the language of science. However, the purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the use of figurative language in writing styles and popular speaking. As a result of the methodological process, the use of figurative language in all cases was confirmed. This allows arriving to the conclusion that this constitutes a linguistic necessity: no language possesses the infinite number of signs to express the ideas and shades of thought; therefore, tropology is not exclusive of writers, because it is also used in the other styles and in popular speaking. Keywords: figured language; literary style; scientific style; journalistic style; popular style
